September 4, 2008, Loretta Oliver - The Evolving Felter. Loretta began her interest in textiles by sewing doll clothes under her mother’s direction. Her experience with weaving began in the early 70’s while fulfilling an undergraduate degree requirement. Loretta expanded on this beginning by participating in workshops and seminars offered by local and national weaving guilds. Her passion for felt making began with a workshop in 1988 and by 1998 she was felting into hand woven fabric to produce scalloped edges. Loretta has a Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Design and a Master’s degree in Fiber Arts. Both degrees are from Wayne State University. The workshop has been canceled.
October 2, 2008, Jill Nordfors Clark - Switching Fears: From embroidery to Basketry. "Needle lace (a form of embroidery used in making lace with a needle and thread) has been my lifetime focus, so it has been a natural transition for me to use these familiar stitches in a new way by making lacy, three-dimensional sculptural baskets out of twigs, vines, parachute cord, and hog gut (better known as sausage casing).
Please join me on October 2nd for a slide show of my continually evolving journey in contemporary basketry."
October 11 - 12, 2008, Rodrick Owen - Peruvian Obliquely Interlaced Braids.
